Implicit deregistration in 3G cellular networks

چکیده
In a 3G cellular network, the visitor location registers (VLRs), the gateway location registers (GLRs), and the home location registers (HLRs) form a three-level mobility database structure. When users leave a GLR/VLR service area, deregistration with a GLR/VLR is required. Deregistration may create significant traffic in the network, especially the traffic between a GLR and a HLR, which is the remote/international traffic. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical implicit deregistration scheme with a first/subsequent registration in 3G cellular networks to effectively eliminate deregistration traffic. An analytic model is proposed to carry out the performance of the proposed scheme. Our study shows that the proposed scheme not only reduces the local deregistration traffic between the GLR and the VLR, but also reduces the remote/international deregistration traffic between the HLR and the GLR. This is especially true when the ratio of the cost of the remote/international traffic between the GLR and the HLR to the cost of local traffic between the VLR and the GLR is high. Deregistration Strategies for PCS Networks
This paper studies three deregistration strategies (explicit, implicit, and timeout (TO) deregistration) for personal communication service (PCS) networks to determine the network conditions under which each strategy gives the best performance. Two performance measures are considered: 1) the probability that a portable cannot register (and receive service) and 2) the number of deregistration me...
متن کاملImplicit Deregistration with Forced Registration for PCS Mobility Management
Registration/deregistration with a mobility database called Visitor Location Registers (VLRs) is required in a PCS network when a mobile phone moves between registration areas. Several schemes were proposed to deregister a mobile phone after it moves out of a registration area. A simple scheme, called implicit deregistration, is studied in this paper, which does not specifically deregister any ...

The wireless communication with delivering variety of services to users is growing rapidly in recent years. The third generation of cellular networks (3G), and local wireless networks (WLAN) are the two widely used technologies in wireless networks. 3G networks have the capability of covering a vast area; while, WLAN networks provide higher transmission rates with less coverage. Since the two n...

Nowadays, wireless packet data services are provided over Wireless MAN (WMAN) at a high data service rate, while 3G cellular networks provide wide-area coverage at a low data service rate. The integration of mobile WiMAX and 3G networks is essential, to serve users requiring both high-speed wireless access as well as wide-area connectivity. In this paper, we propose a cross-layer optimization s...
